Richard Birtchnell is The Asian Wedding Toastmaster

Privileged as always to participate in a Hindu wedding celebration. At the Marriott Grosvenor Square. Working alongside Veer Events, Mahraj Vaisnava, DJ Krash at Devine Music, harpist Melissa Parmar, photographer Dino Jeram,and videographer Chris Jolly.

Photos include:

  • The happy couple, Amish and Hatal
  • Family group photos after the ceremony
  • If you didn’t know it, the swastika was originally an Indian religious icon and still today a sacred symbol in Hinduism. Even the word ‘swastika’ is Sanskrit for ‘prosperity and well being’.
  • Creative arrangement of reception cocktails
  • The game of ‘Koda Kodi’ played by the couple whereby they search for a ring in opaque coloured liquid and whoever finds it first is deemed to be the ‘ruler’ of the household. The priest will adjudicate and organise the best of three or five attempts until the bride comes out on top. But of course!
  • The ‘Ace of Spades’ Champagne may be as expensive as the cake! Pure indulgence. Sheer luxury.
  • The Best Man organises a flash mob to entertain couple
  • Strictly the first dance. Unrepeatable. Then it’s a non-stop party to the end after a day of celebration which had begun at 8am

I was fortunate to act as a wedding Toastmaster at Botleys Mansion in Chertsey Surrey for a Friday wedding.

Botleys Mansion was built over 250 years ago, formerly a private residence, then in more recent times, became a hospital. Now an exclusive wedding venue operated by bijou.

This memory popped up and am happy to share as the perfect wedding in the best wedding venue. It is such a privilege to participate in my clients’ special days. Always live, unrehearsed and unrepeatable. Here I acted as Wedding Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies at an extravagant Asian wedding at Grosvenor House for 750 guests.

Part of the entertainment were Aerialists Nina, Alex and Ziggy otherwise known as ‘Eleganza’ and magician, Magic Singh.

Three Venue Wedding

The Three Venue Wedding in London

Earlier in July, I acted as a Wedding Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies at a wonderful three-venue wedding… starting at the RAF Club in Piccadilly to board an open-topped Routemaster bus for transfer to the House of Commons for a wedding ceremony and champagne reception. Then to the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair, for wedding breakfast. Then walking behind a Scottish piper along Piccadilly to finish at the RAF Club for cake cutting and dancing.
