The prestigious Prix Gallien awards, staged by WG Consulting ,held at the House of Commons are for innovations in the pharmaceutical industry for which I have officiated as Toastmaster over the last eight years. During that time, the Rt Hon Andrew Lansley has been acting as either Health Secretary or its Shadow and involved in the presentations and ceremonies during the event. ?Now, even in his new role as Leader of the House and technically no longer engaged in the business of Health, he was warmly applauded as he was invited by the organisers to make a speech.

As the international icon of democracy and peaceful resistance to oppressive rule, Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Prize by Her Majesty the Queen in December 2011 and HE Madeleine Albright, US Secretary of State (1997-2001) accepted the Prize on her behalf. I was privileged to be the Toastmaster at this event. We hope that the Burmese heroine will be able to collect the award personally on her visit to London this June.

London Toastmaster at Lincoln's Inn's Great Hall

I recently had the privilege of performing in one of London’s finest and most-treasured banqueting halls, at the?heart of Lincoln’s Inn, the earliest of the four great Inns of Court of which Barristers and Judges are members.

It is in the Great Hall where graduating law students are called to the Bar and where debates, lectures and concerts take place. Its historic facilities are available for private hire and on this occasion I was Toastmaster at an awards dinner hosted by Euromoney Energy Events.

The Wedding Ideas Awards are the UK’s only wedding industry awards voted for by real brides and on 22nd January 2010 ?the winners were announced at a ceremony and celebratory lunch held at the Andaz Hotel, Liverpool Street. Guest presenter was TV personality Jenni Falconer and I had the honour of being the Toastmaster/MC. During the afternoon guests were delighted with a cabaret performed by ‘Incognito’ who were truly wonderful. The three singers pose as guests, then develop an excuse to get up and sing classical arias, to everybody’s surprise. The London Toastmaster Rubbing Shoulders with Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Finalists

A Toastmaster’s life is not all about pomp, ceremony and formal announcements. Sometimes we need to introduce fun elements to the programme and here are two examples of recent experiences. From ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘ we have finalists Julia Naidenko, the mesmerising Latvian belly dancer who was engaged to entertain at a Kurdish wedding where I was the Toastmaster and the hilarious Stavros Flatley and his son who were performing at a charity Ball where I was the Master of Ceremonies. Despite neither act winning the talent contest, both are much in demand at celebrations, parties, weddings and Balls. Of course, I just had to have my picture taken with them.
