As a Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies I will keep you posted of events and venues that I have attended in my capacity as a Toastmaster, provide you with helpful hints and tips for making your event run more smoothly and give you an idea of what the role of a Master of Ceremonies is.

About the Author: Richard Birtchnell+ is The London Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies.
His role at a function is mainly:
- To ensure guests are welcomed and kept advised what is about to happen.
- To introduce the set-piece moments, such as speeches and presentations
- To work with Banqueting staff, photographers and entertainers
- To run the event to an agreed timetable
Richard has been a Toastmaster for 12 years and acted at over 1,800 events in approximately 200 venues. Before he became a Toastmaster, Richard was running an events production company and as producer and director, has a wealth of experience in live presentations, fundraising Balls, diplomatic and civic receptions and of course, social events such as weddings of all cultures.
He has a sharp eye for detail, a clear voice and a safe pair of hands into which you can trust the smooth running of any event.
Richard is a Past President of the highly regarded Society of London Toastmasters, the original and most prestigious of Toastmaster organisations. To be accepted by the Society, a Toastmaster must demonstrate, through a challenging application process, that he can operate to the highest possible levels of skill, diplomacy and presentation. Richard Birtchnell is proud to be among this elite group.
